WISH LESS galleryは、中田有美による個展「Empty View」を開催いたします。
中田有美は、自ら撮影した写真をもとに制作したコラージュを拡大出力し、その手前に自作のオブジェを吊るして配置することで、三次元的な重層構造のコラージュを更に作り上げ、それを描写しています。中田の目を通して描かれた色鮮やかな世界は遠近が乱れ、手前と奥が狂った奇妙な感覚を呼び起こします。ピントのズレた草花やガラクタなどの形状や色彩が変容することによって、脳の奥底に潜在する記憶の断片が集まり、新しいイメージとして現れるのです。現実と虚構を行き来する仮想リアリティに迫った中田の新作群にご注目ください。
[ 作家の言葉 ]
夜眠る前、考えなくてもいいことばかり考えてしまう。ただ今を一生懸命生きていれば後ろを向かずに済むはずなのに、過去の色々なことが引っかかり、心の中の目を閉じることができない。
そんな時、何もない場所を思い浮かべる。いろんな物があるのに、何もない場所。何も認識できない景色を想像すると、私の目は空洞のようになり、身体の外的なイメージは消えていく。こうして自分自身がいなくなる時、やっと私は目を閉じられる。
[ ペインティングシリーズ「Near and Far」について ]
自分自身が存在していることをいつも不思議に思っています。過去の記憶は本当にあったことなのか、身体は本当に自分のものなのか、時々わからなくなります。そういった疑問を絵のモチーフに変えたいと考え、自分自身のいない自画像を制作しています。
まず、自分が撮った写真をたくさん集めて集合させた架空の風景としてのコラージュを作ります。絵の制作ではそのコラージュを大きく印刷して壁に貼り、その前にガラクタやゴミを組み合わせた立体物や、収集したものなどを吊るして立体的状況を作ります。タブローはその容易に描きづらい状況を目視して描いたものです。
最終的には、ひとつの絵の中で何か読み取れそうで読み取れないような、例えば過去をはっきり思い出せないような、そんな視覚的状況を目指して色と形、筆致を組み合わせています。

WISH LESS gallery is delighted to announce the Japanese artist Yumi Nakata’s solo exhibition ‘Empty View’.
Yumi Nakata creates and depicts a three-dimensional, multi-layered collage by enlarging collages made from photographs she has taken herself, and then hanging and arranging her own objects in front of them, these become the source material for her paintings . The colourful world depicted through Nakata’s eyes evokes a strange sensation of disordered perspective and a deranged sense of foreground and background. The transformation of the shapes and colours of out-of-focus plants, flowers and junk brings together fragments of latent memories in the depths of the brain, which emerge as new images. Please come and enjoy Nakata’s new works, which move between reality and fiction.
[ STATEMENT ]
Before I go to sleep at night, my mind tends to wander to things I don’t want to think about. If I just lived in the present, I wouldn’t have to look back, but so many things from the past are stuck in my mind that I can’t close my mind’s eye.
At such times, I think of a place where there is nothing. A place where there are many things, but nothing is there. When I imagine a landscape where nothing is recognisable, my eyes become hollow and the external images of my body disappear. When I am thus no longer myself, I can finally close my eyes.
[ About the painting series Near and Far ]
I have always wondered about my own existence. Sometimes I am not sure if my memories of the past really happened or if my body really belongs to me. I want to turn these questions into motifs for my paintings, so I create self-portraits without myself.
First of all, I make a collage as an imaginary landscape, which is a collection of many photographs I have taken and assembled. In the production of the painting, the collage is printed out in large format and pasted on the wall and hung in front of it is a three-dimensional assemblage of objects made of junk and rubbish, as well as collected items . The painting is a visual depiction of that challenging subject matter.
The final result is a combination of colours, shapes and brushstrokes, aiming to create a visual situation where something in the painting seems to be legible but is not.
