WISH LESS galleryでは、山本ユフィによる個展「NAKED TALK」を開催いたします。
山本ユフィは、まばゆい太陽の下で気だるく佇むふくよかな女性たちの日常を描いています。作品の舞台は彼女が10～20代を過ごしたカリフォルニアであり、LAのストリート・サーフカルチャーの影響を色濃く受けた開放的で奔放な情景が画面いっぱいに広がります。
目を引くのは女性像。精密に描写される背景とは対照的に、女性たちの姿はあえて細部を省くことで、モチーフの重みや肉感を強調し、人間の感情や存在感など曖昧でありながら確実に存在するものを表しています。ユフィのフィルターを通過することによって、彼女たちの何気ない日常にストーリー性が生まれ、モチーフの置かれた状況、色、匂いなどの複雑な感覚を観る側に抱かせるのです。
本展では、WISH LESSにて初の個展となる山本ユフィの新作十数点を発表いたします。自己の脆さを知り、あるがままに自分らしく生きようとする人々を描いたユフィの世界にぜひご期待ください。
［ ステイトメント ］
無邪気で強気で堂々としてるけど、か弱い部分もあるし嫌なことあったらグレる時もある。私の描く女の子は自由気ままで、全然痩せてなくて、社会から押しつけられる理想像なんかどうでもいいところで生きています。理想の女性像なのだけれど、描かれてるひとりひとりには彼女らの日常があり、嬉しいことや、悲しいことや、色々抱えながら生きていて人間臭い感じです。場所の題材となるカリフォルニアは私の自己表現の在り方をシェイプした場所であり、私の人生に色彩を与えてくれた場所です。そこで育まれた感情をそのままキャンバスに落としているのですが、絵画を描いているというよりは、私の中に生まれた感情を描いていると言ったほうがよいかもしれません。これら作品の前では、目に見える現実の曖昧な定義は蒸発していき、そこに残るのは時や意識を超えた、色や匂い、感覚といったものなのかもしれません。
［ プロフィール ］
山本ユフィ／Yufi Yamamoto
1990年東京生まれ。16歳で単身にアメリカへ渡る。10年以上のカリフォルニア・ライフの中で培ったアートは、レトロスクールな色調、LAのストリート・サーフカルチャーからインスパイアされ、サイケデリックでポップかつアンニュイな雰囲気が特徴だ。数年前から西海岸をテーマにした作品を発表し続け、今回が新作の発表となる。

WISH LESS gallery is pleased to announce NAKED TALK, a solo exhibition by Yufi Yamamoto.
Yufi Yamamoto depicts the daily lives of statuesque women standing languidly under the dazzling sun. The work is set in California, where she spent her teens and twenties, her canvases are filled with open and uninhibited scenes strongly influenced by LA’s street and surf culture.
The female figures are eye-catching. In contrast to the precisely rendered backgrounds, the details of the women’s figures are deliberately omitted to emphasise the weight and fleshiness of the motifs and to express the ambiguous yet definite presence of human emotions and presence. Through Yufi’s filter, a narrative is created in their ordinary lives, and the viewer is made to feel the complexity of the motifs’ situations, colours and smells.
In this exhibition, Yufi Yamamoto’s first solo show at WISH LESS, she will present more than a dozen new works. Please look forward to Yufi’s world of people who know the fragility of the self and try to live their lives as they are.
［ STATEMENT ］
I’m innocent, strong and imposing, but I’m also fragile and sometimes I’m a bit aggressive when I don’t like something. The girls I portray are free-spirited, not at all skinny, and live in a place where they don’t care about the ideals imposed on them by society. They are the ideal image of women, but each one of them has their own daily life, and they live with happiness, sadness and many other things, so they are very human. The location is California, a place that shaped my way of self-expression and gave colour to my life. I put the emotions that were nurtured there directly onto the canvas, but rather than painting, I would say that I am expressing the feelings that were born inside me. In the presence of these works, the vague definitions of visible reality evaporate, and what remains may be colours, smells and sensations that transcend time and consciousness.
［ PROFILE ］
Yufi Yamamoto
Born in Tokyo in 1990, Yufi Yamamoto moved to the USA at the age of 16, where she spent more than 10 years living in California. For several years, she has been presenting West Coast-themed works. She will present all new paintings for her exhibition at WISH LESS.
