WISH LESS galleryでは、根本敬と濱口健による初の二人展「カラトリヲ」を開催いたします。
80年代より特殊漫画家として日本のサブカルチャーを牽引してきた根本敬は、社会の闇や鬱憤を切り取り、人間の生を強烈な異質物として描いてきました。いまでは漫画界を超え、音楽やアートの分野においても欠かすことの出来ない大衆文化の第一人者として知られています。
一方、濱口健は写実画家として培った抜群の画力を駆使し、音楽をはじめオルタナティブ文化から得た博識とユーモアを強引に組み合わせた得体の知れない絵画スタイルで熱狂的に支持されています。
無秩序で好き勝手に表される二人の世界は、綺麗事だけでは済まされない世の中の陰部を可視化しています。あえて眼を背けてきた社会の裏側を、彼らは私たちの瞼を思いっきりこじ開けて露呈させます。しかし混沌とした作品を少しだけ違った視点で眺めてみると、そこには愛嬌たっぷりの笑いや美しい物事に溢れ、思いがけない思考や感覚の広がりを感じさせてくれます。
本展では、濱口が師とも崇める根本敬と対峙し、互いに影響し合いながら清濁合わせ呑む初の試みです。二人がこのために書き下ろした共作の数々を会場にて初披露いたします。皆様のご来場を心よりお待ち申し上げております。
いずれ実現すると願って15年、やっと根本さんと濱口さんのコラボ展が開催される。しかもそのギャラリーがこれまた個人的に縁の深いWISH LESSということが嬉しい。つまらない規制や抑制がかかることなく、がっぷり四つで組み合ったお二人の作品を拝見するのが今から楽しみでしょうがない。（東京キララ社 中村保夫）
[ プロフィール ]
根本 敬
1981年「ガロ」で漫画家デビュー。漫画と異なる表現の壁を-或いは現実の壁をぶち壊す。
信条は「コミック雑誌はいらない」
近年の代表作は幻の名盤解放同盟の湯浅学と共にラジオ番組の体裁を以て「noise」を公共の電波で作品化した「ドントパスミーバイ」
また画集としてレコジャケを自身の解釈でカバーした「ブラックアンドブルー」（東京キララ社刊）がある。

濱口 健
1997年多摩美術大学の日本画卒。イラスト～美術のボーダーライン…というか、立ち位置のよく分からないエリアにてなんとか生き延びようと活動中の絵描き。
近年は元々中心だった写実表現以外のことにもどんどん展開中。

WISH LESS gallery is thrilled to present ‘KARATORIO’, a two-person exhibition by Takashi Nemoto and Ken Hamaguchi.
Takashi Nemoto has been a leading figure in Japanese subculture as an avant-garde manga artist since the 1980s, he focuses on the darkness and resentment of society and depicts human life through his bizarre characters and creatures. He is now known as a pop culture icon, indispensable in the fields of music and art beyond the world of manga.
Ken Hamaguchi is known for his unorthodox style of painting, which combines the outstanding drawing skills he developed as a realistic painter with the erudition and humour he acquired from music and other alternative cultures.
Their world, which is expressed in a chaotic and arbitrary manner, visualises the darker side of the world, which cannot be simply cleaned up. They expose the underside of society, which we have turned our eyes away from, prying open our eyelids with all their might. However, if you look at their chaotic works from a slightly different perspective, they are full of charming laughter and beautiful things, leading you to an unexpected expansion of thought and feeling.
In this exhibition, Hamaguchi collaborates with Nemoto, whom he reveres as a teacher, in a first attempt to combine their unique output, while mutually influencing each other. A number of collaborative works created by the two artists for this exhibition will be presented for the first time at WISH LESS. We sincerely look forward to seeing you at the exhibition.
After 15 years of hoping that it would eventually happen, a collaborative exhibition by Nemoto and Hamaguchi will finally be held. I am also happy that the gallery is WISH LESS, with which I have a close personal relationship. [ PROFILE ]
Takashi Nemoto
Debuted as a manga artist in the Japanese magazine Garo in 1981. Breaks down the barriers between manga and different forms of expression – or reality.
His creed is “I don’t need comic magazines”.
Nemoto’s most recent work is Don’t Pass Me By, in which he and Manabu Yuasa of the Phantom Masterpiece Liberation League adapted noise for the public airwaves under the guise of a radio programme.
Nemoto has also published an art book ‘Black and Blue’ (Tokyo Kirara-sha), in which he reinterpreted a series of his favourite record jackets.

Ken Hamaguchi
Graduated from the Japanese painting course at Tama Art University in 1997. A painter trying to survive in between illustration and art. Recently, he has been expanding into areas other than his original focus of realistic expression.
