WISH LESS galleryでは、フランスを中心に活動する画家、古市牧子の個展を開催いたします。
古市は、豊かな色使いとにじみ・ぼかしを駆使した透明感のある水彩画を得意とし、これまでにホテルルームの内装や修道院、歴史的洞窟内の巨大壁画を手掛け、最近では自身の作品が美術館のコレクションに加わるなど、フランス美術界において非常に高く評価されています。
生き生きと描かれた人物や動物たちの内面に潜むブラックユーモアを巧みに描写し、観る側を「ニヤリ」とさせるような古市の鋭い表現力にぜひ触れてみてください。
作家の言葉
ドロドロ、ねっとり、時におどろおどろしくて、そしてちょっと滑稽なものが好きだ。ここ数年、信仰や神話、妖怪といったものをテーマに制作を行なっているのも、そのせいかもしれない。人々は何かに祈るし、すがりたいし、信じたい。絵を描くことは私にとって神聖な行為で、信者が神に祈る行為と似ている。
展示では、手のオブジェや仮面・妖怪のような生き物が描かれた水彩画を組み合わせて、祭壇や供物台を思わせる宗教的な雰囲気を演出したいと思っている。
ちなみにHihifoufou（ヒヒフフ）とは、私が笑う時の擬声語である。
PROFILE
古市 牧子
1987年金沢市生まれ。2011年ナント美術学校を卒業後、フランス国内を中心に活動。
継続的で曖昧な笑みをもたらす「ニヤリ」なものを作り続ける。
主に水彩画を中心に制作していたが、絵画を利用した空間インスタレーションや彫刻制作を展開している。近年は洞窟壁画や鐘の装飾制作なども行っている。

WISH LESS gallery is excited to announce the solo exhibition of Makiko Furuichi, a Japanese painter who is active mainly in France. Furuichi specializes in transparent watercolor paintings that make full use of rich colors and bleeding and blurring. She has worked directly on interiors of hotel rooms, monasteries, and huge mural paintings in historic caves, and recently her works can be found in museum collections in Europe. She has become highly regarded in the French art world.
Come and witness Furuichi’s sharp and expressive work that skillfully depicts the black humor hidden inside her lively painted people and animals, that will put a grin on your face.
STATEMENT
I like muddy and soggy, sometimes frightening and a little humorous. That may be the reason why I have been working on themes such as faith, myths, and ‘youkai’ for the past few years. People want to pray, cling to and believe in something. Painting is a sacred act for me, similar to a believer praying to a God.
In the exhibition, I would like to create a religious atmosphere reminiscent of an altar or offering stand by combining watercolor paintings with hand-shaped objects, masks and ‘Youkai’ creatures.
By the way, Hihifoufou is an onomatopoeia for the sound of my laughter .
PROFILE
Makiko Furuichi
Born in Kanazawa City in 1987. After graduating from Nantes Art School in 2011, she has been active mainly in France.
Continues to create “grinning” things that bring a continuous and vague smile. Although she mainly produced watercolor paintings, she is developing spatial installations and sculptures using paintings. In recent years, she has also produced cave paintings and large-scale bell decorations.
