WISH LESS galleryでは、濱口綾乃 の個展「行ったり来たりの日々」を開催いたします。当ギャラリーでは初の個展です。
美しいはずの植物が、あたかも触手を伸ばし彷徨うかのような濱口のペインティング作品。強い生命力に満ちた異質な植物にはしたたかさと自由な精神があり、静止画に躍動感を与えます。しなやかに澄んだ透明感のある描写と対照的に目を引く白い草木は、観る側に緊張感を抱かせ、刹那的な美しさを掻き立てます。植物という身近な存在が、自身の過去を吸収して多様な形へと変化していく濱口の作品にぜひ着目してください。
[ ステイトメント ]
自分が体験したこと、触ったものの感覚や質感が画面上に現れており、それが植物の姿を借り画面上に増殖し空想の風景を立ち上げる。植物をモチーフとして選択しているが描きたいのは植物画や風景画ではない。自身の絵画を構成する要素としてバランス感覚、レイヤー、質感、筆致、色彩を重要視しており植物は人間に身近でありながら固有のイメージやメッセージ性が薄くそれらを損なわないため扱いやすく、植物自体がもつ身体性や地に根を張り広がっていく侵略性は人間の想像をはるかに超えた自由さがあり自身の創作意欲をかき立ててくれる。そんな植物の姿から得たきっかけを制作活動の始まりとし画面上でやり取りをしながら描いていく、出来上がったものが自身の想像すら超えるような作品になることを目指している。
作品を描く前のトレーニングとして描き始めた水彩画が油絵と同じ感覚で描けるようになってきた。
水彩と色鉛筆で描く植物は油絵にはない素直な表現と不慣れゆえの好きにやってよい自由さがある。どちらの作品も自分らしさのある作品であると感じており、水彩と油彩を交互に描くことは、画面上でバランスをみながら即興的に描いているのと同じ感覚で、どちらに強く傾くことなくバランスを取りながら２つの作品を描いている。傾きすぎれば一方の作品は息苦しくなり重たくなる。自身が絵画に求めていた自由とは軽さなのかもしれない。重くなり始めていた油彩表現を水彩作品が軽く解きほぐしてくれたように感じる。そんな自由で軽やかな水彩作品と水彩と油彩2つの表現を行き来しながら両方の良さを併せ持つ新しい表現で描く油彩作品を発表します。
[ プロフィール ]
濱口綾乃
1991年9月1日生まれ。2014年名古屋芸術大学・洋画2コース卒業、2016年名古屋芸術大学・大学院・同時代表現研究を卒業。まだ展示歴の少ない若手作家でありながら、その作品は大きく注目を集めている。

WISH LESS gallery is pleased to announce Ayano Hamaguchi’s solo exhibition “Back and Forth”.
Hamaguchi’s paintings depict plants that are supposed to be beautiful, but seem to be wandering around with their tentacles outstretched. These alien plants, filled with a strong life force, have a robust and free spirit that gives the still paintings a sense of dynamism. In contrast to the supple, clear and transparent depiction, the eye-catching white plants and trees give the viewer a sense of tension and stir ephemeral beauty. We invite you to take a look at Hamaguchi’s work, in which the familiar presence of plants absorbs its own past and transforms into a variety of forms.
[ STATEMENT ]
The sensations and textures of what I have experienced and touched appear in my work , which proliferate on the canvas in the form of plants, creating imaginary landscapes. Although I have chosen plants as my motif, it is not botanical or landscape paintings that I want to depict. Plants are familiar to humans, they are easy to paint because they do not have their own image or message, and their physicality and the invasiveness of the plants themselves, rooted in the ground and spreading, are far beyond human imagination and inspire me to create. My creative process begins with the inspiration I get from the appearance of these plants, and I draw them while interacting with them on the canvas , aiming for the finished work to exceed even my own imagination.
I began painting with watercolours as a method of training and have now been able to paint with the same approach and sensation of oil painting.
The plants I draw in watercolour and coloured pencil have an honest expression that oil paintings do not have, and the freedom to do as I please . I feel that both works have their own character and that alternating between watercolour and oil is like improvising while looking at the balance on the canvas, so I paint the two works while maintaining a balance without leaning too strongly towards one or the other. If I lean too much in one direction one of the two works becomes suffocating and heavy. Perhaps the freedom I was seeking in my paintings was lightness. I feel as if the watercolour works have loosened up the expression of the oil paintings, which had begun to become heavy. I will be presenting free and light watercolour works and oil paintings that combine the best of both worlds in a new expression that goes back and forth between the two mediums.

Ayano Hamaguchi was born in 1991, graduated from Nagoya University of Arts, Oil painting course in 2014 and from Nagoya University of Arts, Graduate School, Contemporary Expression Studies in 2016.
