WISH LESS galleryでは、英国人アーティスト、ジェド・ウェルズの個展「INSANITY WE TRUST」を開催いたします。英ワイト島出身、ロンドン在住のジェド・ウェルズは、1984年に立ち上げたブランド「insane／インセイン」を通じ、スケートボードカルチャー界で自身のアートを伝えてきました。シュールな物語と擬人化されたイリュージョンを織り交ぜた彼の大胆な作品は、90年代初頭のストリートウェアに大きな影響を与えたことで広く知られています。
本展ではこうした過去のアイコニックなビジュアルの再構築を試みます。実験的にテクチャーを重ねる事で、キャラクター達が変幻自在に異次元を遊び回るかのように再生し、かつてのTシャツアートワークがキャンバス上に息を吹き返します。
会場では、ジェドが手がけた原画作品やシルクスクリーンポスターなどに加え、本展のために制作された insaneオリジナルTシャツも数量限定で販売いたします。
さらに個展に合わせてジェド本人が来日し、オープニングレセプションを行います。
［ プロフィール ］
Ged Wells of insane
「insane／インセイン」はUKスケーターブランドの草分け的存在かつ90年代を代表するストリートブランド。自身もスケーターであるジェド・ウェルズが自ら描くシュールなアートワークをTシャツにしたことからスタートし、伝説的なスケボー専門誌「RaD magazine」に取り上げられ注目を集める。後にUKスケーターらが絶大なる信頼を寄せる『SlamCitySkates』と契約。当時目立ったスケーターブランドが無いイギリスで、アメリカ産ブランドにはない新鮮なグラフィックが評判となり、スケーターを通して瞬く間にストリートで人気に火が付く。日本では当時、各ファッション誌で紹介されるも入手困難なこともあり、その人気はカルト化、今もなお多くの支持を集めている。
「SOPH.」が展開する「uniform experiment」2023-2024 A/Wでは insaneとコラボし、ジェドがロゴを新たに描き下ろしたカプセルコレクションを今秋冬展開する。

WISH LESS gallery is thrilled to announce ‘INSANITY WE TRUST’ a solo exhibition by Ged Wells of insane. Ged was born on the Isle of Wight and is now based in London, He has been channeling his art within skateboard culture via his skateboard clothing brand ‘insane’ since 1984.
His bold graphic works, laced with surreal narrative and anthropomorphic illusion, became a prominent aspect of an emerging streetwear market in the early 90s.
This exhibition revisits some of these iconic early works, stimulated with layers of textural experimentation, reincarnations of familiar friends, set free within kaleidoscopic parallel worlds.
In this exhibition, we are showing Ged’s original artwork and silkscreen posters and a limited number of insane original T-shirts produced especially for the show. Ged will be in Tokyo for the opening reception of the exhibition.
［ PROFILE ］
insane is a pioneering UK skate brand and one of the leading street brands of the 1990s. The brand started when Ged Wells, a skater himself, produced surreal artwork on T-shirts, which were featured in the legendary British skateboarding magazine ‘R.a.D’ and attracted a lot of attention. The brand was later licensed to the much respected ‘SlamCitySkates’. In the UK, where there were no prominent domestic skate brands at the time, the brand’s fresh graphics, which were unlike those offered by the American brands, were well received and quickly became popular on the streets through skaters. In the 1990s the brand was introduced in Japan through various fashion magazines at the time, but was difficult to obtain, and its popularity became a cult and still attracts a lot of followers.
Japanese brand SOPH. is collaborating with ‘insane’ on the ‘uniform experiment‘ 2023-2024 A/W, and will launch a capsule collection this autumn/winter.
