WISH LESS galleryでは、アーティスト・22世紀ジェダイ／門倉太久斗の個展「どれもそれぞれに可愛くて一番は決められない」を開催いたします。
門倉の作品に登場する美しい草花には、ひっそりと潜む奇妙さや不気味さが漂い、画面を埋め尽くすほどの大胆な構図と鮮明な色彩によって、花々がいまにも動き出しそうな強い異世界を想像させます。静止した花からスピード感を見出すなど、門倉のユニークな視点にも着目してみてください。植物が宿す生命感を幻想的かつ生々しく描いた注目の作家による新作群をぜひお楽しみください。
アーティスト・ステイトメント
花はあまりにも奇妙で異類のものの一種のように感じられてなりません。花があれば花に見られているような気がして怖くなることがあります。花を描きたいと思うのはそれが美しくまた奇妙でどうしても無視することができないからです。
私は今のように絵を描く以前にはファッションの仕事をしておりました。年に2度あるランウェイに向けて新しい服を作る仕事です。
季節の変わり目にあるこのランウェイに私は特別な興奮を覚えておりました。
ものよってはそれが美しいのかどうかよくわからない服を着て歩き、それを大勢の人が見にやってくる。そこに何か重要な意味があるような気がしてなりません。
特別な体をもった人達が、特別な服を纏って練り歩くこのインベントは、華やかなイメージがあると同時に、見る人に恐怖や混乱をもたらす百鬼夜行のようなおどろおどろしい側面も含んでいるのを私は見ました。
ランウェイは、年に2度異界との通路が開き向こうから得体の知れない何かにやって来てもらう大切な儀式だという気がしてなりません。
花をいけるための壺や花瓶もこれと似た役割を持っています。そこに花がいけてあると花瓶を通じて異界から花がやってきてしまったように見えてしまいました。重力と調和して美しいカーブを描く花瓶には通路としての役割がありそうです。この事についてはまだまだ考え中ですが、何らかの方法で異界から何かがやって来て欲しいと願ってやみません。
プロフィール
門倉太久斗
埼玉県生まれ。武蔵野美術大学空間デザイン学科ファッション専攻を卒業後コムデギャルソンにてパターンナーとして従事。SNSで「22世紀ジェダイ」というアカウント名にて作品を発表し、近年注目を集めている。代表作は本人が愛するアニメ「プリキュア」をモチーフとしたアクセサリーや掲示板ドローイングシリーズ。2020年11月に自身初となる個展「自分を祝福する儀式」を新宿眼科画廊で開催し話題を集めた。

WISH LESS gallery is pleased to announce 22nd century Jedi a.k.a Takuto Kadokura’s solo exhibition, “Everything is cute but I can’t decide my favourite”.
By using bold composition and vivid colors that fill the canvas, the beautiful flowers that appear in Kadokura’s work have obscurely hidden strangeness and creepiness, that leads to an imagined parallel world where the flowers are about to start moving.
Also Kadokura presents his unique perspective of finding a sense of speed from stationary flowers.
In this exhibition, he will be showing a body of new works that express the life of plants and flowers living visionally and vividly.
ARTIST STATEMENT
It feels like flowers are quite strange and kind of alien. When I’m near flowers, sometimes I feel uncomfortable as if they are watching me.
The beauty and creepiness of flowers inspires me to draw. It’s a strong urge that I can’t ignore.
I used to work in the fashion industry before I started painting. My job was to create new clothes for runway shows twice a year. I was always excited about these events every season.
Many people come to see models wearing unique clothes that might be cool or not. I think there must be something meaningful in these events.
These fashion shows, in which people with special bodies parade in special clothes, always have a gorgeous image.
At the same time, they also include a terrifying aspect of pandemonium, which causes fear and confusion to some viewers.
Runway seems like an important ritual to open a passage to a parallel world and welcome something unknown.
Vases for flower arranging have a similar role. Flowers and the curves in vases express a sense of gravity that seems to also open the door to a parallel world.
I’m just hoping that something will turn up from this alternate universe in some way via the flowers.
PROFILE
Takuto Kadokura
Born in Saitama Prefecture. After graduating from Musashino Art University, Department of spatial fashion design, he began working as a patterner at Comme des Garcons. His work has been popular on SNS as “22nd Century Jedi”. Also known for making accessories with the motif of his beloved anime “PRECURE” and his drawing series which is displayed on his apartment building’s bulletin board.
