WISH LESS galleryでは、英国出身のアーティスト、ロブ・キドニーの個展を開催いたします。独特のゆるキャラと過激な色彩描写から生み出されるトリッピーでトロピカルな新作群をぜひこの機会にご覧ください。
ステイトメント
10代の頃、アメリカで流行したサーフ＆スケートファッションにハマり、その派手な色彩や模様は、イギリス南部の街ブライトン生まれの自分を異国の地へと開放してくれた。ちょうどそのころ絵を描きはじめ、それらの過激でアシッドなファッションセンスが強烈なインスピレーションとなり、当時の自分を構成していった。
そして世界的なロックダウンの真っ只中、再び当時のカラーやモチーフに触れることが一種の現実逃避となる。
今回の展示では、極端な色使いとダイナミックペインティング技術によるトロピカルなヴィジュアルツアーへと観る人を誘いたい。そこには自分のキャラクターたちが、ビーチパーティを繰り広げる遥か異国の楽園なのである。
プロフィール
ロブ・キドニー
英国出身のアーティスト／イラストレーター。ブライトン大学イラストレーション科卒業。現在は東京を拠点に活動。
鮮やかな色と力強い手描きのラインを駆使したユニークなキャラクターアートを得意とし、音楽、ファッション、インテリア雑貨など様々な分野にイラストを提供。
2012年より、東京・田端にあるギャラリーWISH LESSのオーナーとして、国内外の作家の展覧会キュレーションも行う。

WISH LESS gallery is excited to announce the solo exhibition ’24H BEACH PARTY’ by British artist Rob Kidney. Please take this opportunity to see his trippy and tropical new body of work featuring unique characters and a radical color palette.
STATEMENT
As a teenager I was obsessed with surf and skate clothing from the US . The bright colours and patterns transported me to another place a long way from my hometown of Brighton on the south coast of England. When I started making art, the Day-Glo and acid palette of these garments was a massive inspiration on my early colour schemes.
During the lockdown period as form of escapism I found myself revisiting those colours and motifs.
My aim with this exhibition is to take the viewer on a visual journey to a tropical location through my use of oversaturated colour and dynamic painting techniques, taking my characters on a trip to a faraway exotic 24 hour beach party.
PROFILE
Rob Kidney was born in England and studied illustration at Brighton University and is now based in Tokyo. His unique characters executed with bold lines and vivid colours have been used commercially in music, fashion and interior projects. Since 2012 he has been running WISH LESS gallery in Tokyo, his own space where he curates exhibitions from foreign and Japanese artists.
