WISH LESS gallery

We are thrilled to announce the return of Vinnie Nylon, British graffiti writer and contemporary painter for his second solo show at WISH LESS, fresh from the success of his recent solo exhibition at London’s StolenSpace gallery.

Over his 32 year career he has gained the respect of UK urban artists; most notably internationally acclaimed artist Banksy once donated an artwork to fund his first London show in 2012.
Vinnie sums up his ‘manifesto’ as a “potent mix of the 50s, skating and indelible graffiti”- where icons of consumer culture have been reinterpreted and given his personal twist.

In his upcoming solo exhibition we will be showing a stunning selection of his newest painting and prints alongside some rare pieces from his personal archive.

‘Straphangers’ is the name of the New York based commuter pressure group that was instrumental in the campaign to remove graffiti from the subway trains in the 80’s
The title serving as an actual allegory for hung pieces of work coupled with Vinnie’s passion and obsession with the downtown New York art and music scene in the that period.

Vinnie Nylon has been writing graffiti since 1985, coming from a background of the peace movement, punk and skateboarding in which he had painted slogans and stencils even as a young boy in the early 80s prior to the so called era of Subway Art.

Much of the subject matter of Vinnie Nylon’s paintings is the product of a lifelong collecting obsession with post war products, badges, cartoons, toys and advertising media. Stories are acted out by a cast of vintage vinyl dolls and advertising mascots. Icons of consumer culture have been reinterpreted and given his personal twist, a roll call that includes Valvo, Soda pop, Lucky boy, Bright spark and My-T-Toof.

Previous clients and publication includes Thames and Hudson, Graphotism, Sony playstation, Foster’s ice beer, Granada Television, Garage magazine, Hip Hop connection, 50-50 skateboards, Anglia television, Penguin books, Reebok shoes, Environment agency, Dope clothing, Groovetech, Thursday club records, Wildcat body piercing, Walkabout foundation, Juice magazine (Germany) and Paul Oakenfold.
