【展覧会概要】
陶芸作家のYOKEYとペインターのROB KIDNEYによる二人展「YOU and ME」を開催いたします。
YOKEYとROB KIDNEYは夫婦であり、共にアーティスト活動を続ける傍ら、東京でギャラリーを運営しています。日本の伝統釉薬を用いた深い色合いと柔らかな造形美が特徴的なYOKEYの作風に対し、ROBは鮮やかに彩られた多種多様なキャラクターを自在に描くペインターで知られています。
YOKEYの作品は、ふくよかな女性像や植物、動物が一体となって共存する幻想的な世界を表現しています。無造作な土の造形、ゆがみ、キズといった不完全さから美を見出し、自然の偉大さとしたたかさの中で生きる強い生命力と脆さ、あるいは神秘性を作品の中に反映しています。
ロブの描くキャラクターは、どれも虚な表情をしているもの、目をギラギラと輝かせているものなど、喜びや悲しみ、驚きやとまどいなどが交じった人間の自然な感情を代弁するようにも捉えられ、私たちが生きる千差万別の世界を表しています。日常生活で発見した小さなファンタジーを擬人化させ、あらゆる生き物が仲睦まじく共存する架空の物語を描き出しています。
「YOU and ME」とは、アーティスト＆ギャラリストとして生きる二人が、互いに尊重し合い、日々の苦難や葛藤に立ち向かうことに由来しています。異なる考えや哲学、スキルを持った二人の人間が衣食住を共にする中で、自分には何が得意で不得意なのか、その不完全さを互いに認識し、補完し合いながら創造物を築き上げていきます。私たち人間に限らず、動植物や昆虫など全ての生き物が幸せな相互関係を築き上げる世界。わたしがあなたで、あなたがわたしであるように、寄り添い、支え合う喜びを創作を通して感じ取っていただけたら幸いです。
本展では、個々の創作をご紹介するとともに、デュオとしての共作陶器も展示いたします。パートーナーとして両者が影響し合い、クリエイションの可能性を追求する試みです。
Ceramicist YOKEY and painter/illustrator ROB KIDNEY are pleased to present a two-person exhibition, YOU and ME.
YOKEY and ROB KIDNEY are husband and wife who run a gallery in Tokyo while continuing their artistic activities together.YOKEY’s style is characterised by deep colours and soft beauty of form using traditional Japanese glazes, while ROB is known as an artist who freely paints a wide variety of vividly coloured characters.
YOKEY’s artworks express a fantastical world where plump female figures, plants and animals coexist in unity. She finds beauty in imperfections such as random clay formations, distortions and flaws, and reflects in her work the strong vitality and fragility or mystery of life in the greatness and robustness of nature.
Rob’s characters, some with vacant expressions, others with glistening eyes, can be seen to represent the natural human emotions of joy, sadness, surprise and confusion and mirror the diverse world in which we live. Anthropomorphising the small fantasies found in everyday life, it depicts an imaginary story in which all creatures coexist in harmony.
The name “YOU and ME” comes from the mutual respect between two people living as artists and gallerists, and the daily highs and lows they face. As two people with different ideas and philosophies who live together , they recognise each other’s imperfections, what they are good at and what they are not good at and complement each other in building their creations. This is a world where not only we humans, but all living creatures, including plants, animals and insects, build up a happy mutual relationship. We hope that through our creations, we can experience the joy of being close to each other and supporting each other, just as I am you and you are me.
In this exhibition, we present our individual creations as well as ceramic works created together as a duo. This is an attempt to explore the possibilities of creation by influencing each other as partners.

YOKEY／ヨーキー
埼玉県出身。2017年より本格的に陶芸を学ぶ。誰しもが持つアンバランスな個性を躍動感あふれる造形美で表現する陶芸作家。概念にとらわれない自由で可愛らしいフォルムには、遊び心と愛情が落とし込まれている。
2012年より、東京・田端にあるギャラリーWISH LESSのオーナーとして、国内外の作家の展覧会キュレーションも行う。

Studied ceramics since 2017. A ceramic artist who expresses everyone’s unbalanced individuality with dynamic and beautiful forms. Her free and captivating forms are infused with a playful spirit and love. Since 2012, she has been the co-owner of WISH LESS gallery in Tabata, Tokyo, where she curates exhibitions of artists from Japan and abroad.
ROB KIDNEY ／ロブ・キドニー
英国・ブライトン出身のペインター。ブライトン大学イラストレーション科卒業。現在は東京を拠点に活動。
鮮やかな色と力強い手描きのラインを駆使したユニークなキャラクターアートを得意とし、音楽、ファッション、インテリア雑貨など様々な分野にイラストを提供。
2012年より、東京・田端にあるギャラリーWISH LESSのオーナーとして、国内外の作家の展覧会キュレーションも行う。

Rob Kidney was born in England and studied illustration at Brighton University, he is now based in Tokyo. His unique characters executed with bold lines and vivid colours have been used commercially in music, fashion and interior projects. Since 2012 he has been the co-owner of WISH LESS gallery in Tokyo, where he curates exhibitions of artists from Japan and abroad.
