WISH LESS galleryでは、アーティスト、ソニー・スズキによる個展「ハウ・マイ・ハート・シングス」を開催いたします。ソニー・スズキは1996年に渡米、NYブルックリンにて過ごし、2001年より東京を拠点に活動するアーティストです。
「青春絵画」をテーマに描かれる人物像は、表情を省かれ、あるいは虚ろな視線を向けているにも関わらず、観る人に対して様々な感情を呼び起こし、パーソナルな存在へと意識させます。人々は性別の枠を超え、概念に捉われない自由な生き様をロックスターのごとく謳歌するのです。
一見ゆるやかなタッチの作風ですが、登場する人物像には確固たる意思が垣間見え、さらに音楽を奏でる様な躍動感とエネルギーに溢れた情景を生み出しています。

[ ハウ・マイ・ハート・シングス展について ]
私が描くモデル達に刻んだ詩が、もし絵を観る人たちの心の中で何か歌い始めるとしたら、語り手は絵画から観る者へと代わり、絵画自身がその声を聴く側となる。そんなコミュニケーションに対する密かな願いが私にはあります。

ソニー・スズキ／Sony Suzuki
青春絵画 × 現代神話をコンセプトに活動するネオグラム画家。東京都在住。 両性具有的なモデルたちを通して現代と対峙する人々の感覚や声を描き、音楽的グルーヴ要素を散りばめる作風で国内外のアートスペースにてコンスタントに発表を行う。

WISH LESS gallery is pleased to announce the Japanese artist Sony Suzuki’s solo exhibition ‘How my heart sings’. Sony Suzuki moved to the USA in 1996, spent time in Brooklyn, New York and has been based in Tokyo since 2001.
The figures in his paintings, which are based on the theme of ‘Seishun(young) paintings’ evoke a range of emotions in the viewer and make them feel personal, despite the omission of facial expressions or the blank stare. They transcend gender boundaries and celebrate a free and unconventional way of life, just like rock stars.
The style has a gentle touch, but the characters in the paintings show glimpses of firmness of purpose and are full of energy and dynamism, as if they were playing music.
The exhibition will be an opportunity to witness the trajectory of Sony Suzuki’s youthful paintings, created by his fresh sensibility and boundless imagination.
[ About the exhibition ]
If the poems I inscribe on my subjects begin to sing something in the hearts of the viewers of my paintings, the narrator will be replaced by the viewer, and the paintings themselves will be the listeners of the voices. I have a secret wish for such communication.
[ PROFILE ]
Sony Suzuki is known as a Neogram painter working on the concept of youth painting x contemporary mythology. Lives and works in Tokyo. He depicts the sensations and voices of people confronting the contemporary world through his androgynous characters, and consistently exhibits his work at art spaces in Japan and abroad with a style interspersed with musical groove elements.
