WISH LESS galleryでは、ミュージシャン／ペインターのYoの個展を開催いたします。
1973年東京生まれのYoは、中学生の頃に出会ったスケートボードカルチャーを原点に、OAC、BREAKfAST、EVIL SCHOOLなど数々のハードコアバンドで活動する一方、アートユニット「黒緑less」での展示やZine制作、小説執筆など、ジャンルを横断した表現を続けてきました。
「自分が表現してきた自由な世界がハードコアパンクだった。絵も文章も全部。」
その言葉の通り、本展の作品には音楽と同じ衝動が息づいています。骸骨や動物、人影、街並み、文字の断片などが力強い筆致で描かれ、ユーモアや皮肉、日常の実感が混ざり合いながら、自由で荒々しい独自の世界を表出します。
音楽、絵画、文章という境界を越え、一貫した精神で生み出されるYoの表現を、この機会にぜひご覧ください。
[ 作家の言葉 ]
ぼくはね、保守リベラルにかかわらず、なおかつ、何十年もパンク、ハ－ドコア、スケ－トボ－ドの世界を通じて絵を描き自分の思考を巡らせて生きてきました。それぞれの価値観主観思想のすれ違いはさておき、自分の居どころを見つけ出したのがこの絵でなんとなくだけど表現できてれば幸いです。だから僕の落としどころはカッコ良くも悪くもアナキズムでありたい。自由でありたい。時に闘いたい。争いたい。
そして人生を生きてるあいだは遊び尽くしたい。ただ遊ぶ世の中は昔からも今も汚い人工の池で水遊びをしてるようなもので、それでもその水で一緒に遊ぶ小さな子どもたちとただただ楽しみたい。だからぼくはこれからも何言われようが絵は描き続けます。ダイヤングかどうかは別として。
[ プロフィール ]
Yo／陽 @yo_soeda
1973年東京生まれ。中学生よりスケートボードカルチャーの洗礼を受け、93年にハードコアバンドOACを結成。その後98年にBREAKfASTとなる。同時期にEVIL SCHOOLなど複数のバンドでドラムを担当。2000年代に中村譲治とアートユニット黒緑lessを結成。全国で展示企画やZineの発行、小説執筆等の活動をしている。

WISH LESS gallery is delighted to announce a solo exhibition by musician／painter Yo.
Yo discovered skateboarding culture as a teenager, an experience that shaped his creative practice. Alongside performing with hardcore bands including OAC, BREAKfAST, and EVIL SCHOOL, he has worked across painting, zines, exhibitions, and writing as a member of the art collective KUROMIDORILESS.
“The free world I’ve expressed has always been hardcore punk.
My paintings, my writing―everything.”
Like his music, Yo’s paintings are driven by instinct and energy. Skeletons, animals, human figures, cityscapes, and fragments of text collide through bold brushwork, blending humor, irony, and everyday experience into a raw and distinctive visual language.
We invite you to experience Yo’s uncompromising practice, where music, painting, and writing come together as one.
[ ARTIST STATEMENT ]
I’ve spent decades painting and thinking through punk, hardcore, and skateboarding.
People have different values and beliefs, but through these paintings I hope I’ve expressed the place where I belong.
For better or worse, I want to stand with anarchism. I want to be free. Sometimes I want to fight.
As long as I’m alive, I want to keep playing. The world may be like a dirty, man-made pond, but I still want to enjoy it together with the kids playing beside me.
So, no matter what anyone says, I’ll keep painting.
Whether I’ll die young or not―that’s another story.
[ PROFILE ]
Yo was born in Tokyo in 1973. He formed the hardcore band OAC in 1993, which became BREAKfAST in 1998, while also playing drums for bands including EVIL SCHOOL. In the 2000s, he co-founded the art collective KUROMIDORILESS with Joji Nakamura, organizing exhibitions, publishing zines, and writing novels throughout Japan.
