WISH LESS galleryでは、イラストレーターとして各媒体で活躍する若林夏の個展「ハロー・グッバイ」を開催いたします。
色鉛筆を用い、画面の隅々までびっしりと絵で埋め尽くされる若林の作品には、日常の小さな感動や希望が取り込まれています。普段見かける何気ない情景をユーモラスに描き出す事で、ふと気付かされる日々の美しさ。街で偶然すれ違う人々、食事を楽しむ光景、街路樹の下の車、偶然知らない女の子と視線が重なった瞬間など、そのひとつひとつが実に生き生きと描かれ、忘れがちな人間のぬくもりや面白さを私たちに再認識させてくれます。
また若林の作品には、独特のゆるいタッチと鮮やかな色彩によってノスタルジックな”異国情緒”が表出しています。童話やおとぎ話に登場する様々な文化が混在した別世界を想像させ、見る者を楽しい気持ちにさせてくれる豊かな感性にぜひ触れてみてください。
[ 展示へ向けて ]
日々、ハローグッバイは繰り返えされ、または同時に発生したりしながら、
毎日ぐるぐる回っています。その中に起きた一瞬のきらめきを絵にしました。
街灯と間違えた、昨日の月よさようなら
眩しすぎてうろたえた今日の朝日よこんにちは
いつも絵に込めるのは希望の王国です。
さまざまな多種多様の人、さまざまな思いの人が同列に自然に共存する風景。
そこは何をしてもいい場所。許される場所。
たまにこの毎日でも、ふとした時にそんなタイミングが訪れる時もあります。
夢か現実か、またはどちらでもあるのか。それぞれの希望の王国に思いを馳せていただれば幸いです。

若林夏／Natsu Wakabayashi
埼玉県生まれ。東京在住。多摩美大学染織デザイン科卒業。TIS会員。TIS公募2009銅賞。HBファイルコンペ2010 仲條正義特別賞。MJ賞2010平川彰賞、網中いづる賞次点。繊維メーカーにて、テキスタイルデザイナーとして勤務の後、フリーのイラストレーターとなる。書籍、雑誌、広告、web等で活動中。

WISH LESS gallery is pleased to announce Japanese illustrator Natsu Wakabayashi’s solo exhibition “Hello Goodbye”.
Using coloured pencils, Wakabayashi’s works, which are filled to the brim with drawings, capture the small emotions and hopes of everyday life. By humorously depicting ordinary scenes, the beauty of everyday life is suddenly brought to our attention. People passing by on the street by chance, scenes of people enjoying a meal, a car under a roadside tree, the moment your eyes meet the eyes of a girl you don’t know – each of these scenes is depicted in a truly vivid way, reminding us of the warmth and fun of humanity that we tend to forget.
Wakabayashi’s work also has a nostalgic ‘exoticism’ with its unique loose touch and vivid colours. We invite you to experience the rich sensibility of her work, which evokes a different world in which various cultures and fairy tales are mixed together, and gives the viewer a feeling of joy.
[ STATEMENT ]
Every day, Hello Goodbye goes round and round, repeating itself or occurring at the same time.
I have painted a picture of a momentary glimmer that occurred in the midst of all this.
Goodbye to yesterday’s moon, which I mistook for a street lamp
Hello to today’s sunrise, which was so bright that I was frightened.
What I always put into my paintings is the kingdom of hope.
A landscape where people from all walks of life and with all kinds of different thoughts coexist naturally in the same space.
A place where you can do whatever you want. A place where you are allowed.
Sometimes, even in our everyday life these kind of things suddenly appear.
Is it a dream, reality or both? I hope that each of you can think about your own kingdom of hope.
[ PROFILE ]
Natsu wakabayashi
Born in Saitama. Lives and works in Tokyo. Graduated from Tama Art University, Department of Dyeing and Textile Design.
TIS member; TIS Open Call 2009 Bronze Prize; HB File Competition 2010 Masayoshi Nakajo Special Prize; MJ Award 2010 Akira Hirakawa Prize, runner-up Izuru Aminaka Prize. After working as a textile designer for a textile manufacturer, became a freelance illustrator. Currently working in publishing , magazines, advertising and the web.
